(一)隱公元年《左傳》「大叔完、聚」:《左傳》與戰爭關涉之「完」,
多與「守」、「守備」連言,「完」有堅固義而常連結「守」、「守備」。此
句之「完」或可泛指強固守備,「聚」乃積聚糧食。(二)桓公六年《左傳》
「被吾甲兵」:「被」與「服」有典籍異文,「被」亦具「服」義,「服」則
有「執」、「帶」義。此句猶曰「服甲兵」,既指配執兵器,又云穿著甲衣。
(三)僖公二十一年《左傳》「脩祀」:傳文之「周禮」須含「崇明祀,保小
寡」二事,前後對舉而文意連貫,毋需改「祀」為「禮」。(四)襄公十四年
《左傳》「王室之不壞」:《左傳》之「壞」有毀壞、減損義,此句猶謂王室無
所敗壞、破減。(五)襄公二十六年《左傳》「以比叔向」:傳文「晉人將與之
縣」指將授椒舉一縣而「以比叔向」,可證此「比」乃視同之意。(六)昭公
二十三年《左傳》「士伯御叔孫」:「御」於先秦典籍有「制」義,其意為士伯
「控制」叔孫婼而過邾子所舍之館。(七)定公四年《左傳》「執燧象以奔吳
師」:《左傳》之「執」有拘執、操持義,引申則曰操縱之意。此句云操縱燧

象,使其奔向吳師以稍退進逼之勢。

This article discusses Yú Yuè’s Qún Jīng Píng Yì on Spring and Autumn Annals
- Commentary of Zuǒ Zhuàn on seven issues, and the conclusions will be discussed
below. (1) The sentence ‘Dà-shū wán, jù’ in Zuǒ Zhuàn in 721 B.C: The word ‘wán’
in Zuǒ Zhuàn, which is related to war, is often connected with the word ‘shǒu’ and the
phrase ‘shǒu bè’. The word ‘wán’ has a solid meaning and is often connected with the
phrase ‘shǒu bè’. The word ‘wán’ in this sentence may generally refer to strengthening
the defense, and the word ‘jù’ refers to storing up grain. (2) The sentence ‘Pǐ wú jiǎ
bīng’ in Zuǒ Zhuàn in 705 B.C: The words ‘pǐ’ and ‘fú’ have different texts in classics.
The word ‘pǐ’ also has the meaning of ‘fú’, and ‘fú’ has the meanings of ‘zhí’ (holding
something) and ‘dài’ (belt). This sentence is the same as the phrase ‘fú jiǎ bīng’,
which refers to both holding weapons and wearing armor. (3) The phrase ‘xiū sì’ in
Zuǒ Zhuàn in 635 B.C: ‘Zhōu Li’ in Zuǒ Zhuàn must include the two things ‘chóng
míng sì, bǎo xiǎo guǎ’. The two things should be repeated before and after, and the
text and meaning are coherent, and there is no need to change the word ‘sì’ (sacrifi ce)
to ‘lǐ’ (ritual). (4) The sentence ‘Wáng shì zhī bù huài’ in Zuǒ Zhuàn in 558 B.C: The
word ‘huài’ in Zuǒ Zhuàn has the meaning of destroying and detracting. This sentence
is the same as the royal family is not corrupted or diminished. (5) The sentence ‘Yǐ bǐ

shū xiàng’ in Zuǒ Zhuàn in 546 B.C: The sentence ‘Jìn rén jiāng yǔ zhī xiàn’ in Zuǒ
Zhuàn means that Jìn State will grant Jiāo Jǔ a county, and the sentence ‘Yǐ bǐ shū
xiàng’, which proves the word ‘bǐ’ means to regard the same thing. (6) The sentence
‘Shì Bó yù Shū Sūn’ in Zuǒ Zhuàn in 518 B.C: The word ‘yù’ has the meaning of ‘zhì’
(control) in pre-Qín classics, which means that Shì Bó controlled Shū Sūn-chuò and
passed the roadhouse where Zhū Zi stayed. (7) The sentence ‘Zhí Suì Xiàng yǐ bēn
Wú shī’ in Zuǒ Zhuàn in 504 B.C: The word ‘zhí’ in Zuǒ Zhuàn means to direct and to
handle, and by extension, it means to control. This sentence means to manipulate Suì
Xiàng to run towards the army of Wú State to slightly weaken the Wú's advance.
